Reading Camp

ST MARK’S SUMMER

JUNE 1 – JUNE 26, 2020
MAKING A DIFFERENCE IN A CHILD’S LlFE

Each summer St. Mark’s offers a free Reading Camp for Struggling Readers.  The camp runs 5 days a week, 3 hours a day for 4 weeks. The camp includes 1 hour, 15 minutes of individual one-on-one tutoring for each student, with a back-to-back/alternating session of 1 hour, 15 minutes in a Literacy Center where the child participates in learning activities and games. At the end of the camp struggling readers/non-readers show significant growth and confidence in their ability to read.

The Camp serves up to 30 children

  • The Camp is staffed by approximately 20
volunteers from St. Mark’s and the community
  • Children are individually tested to determine if
their reading needs qualify them for the camp
and to give their tutors information about
their tutors information about their reading
    needs
  • A 15-minute snack/recess break is held
    between sessions
  • The student camp experience culminates with
    a graduation ceremony involving students,
